Spanish Missions, Tubac & Wine Country

Go back in time when you visit the historic Spanish mission San Xavier del Bac, also known as the "White Dove of the Desert".  Next, visit Tubac, where art and history meet as working artists' studios now surround the grounds which once served as the home for a Spanish military garrison.  Participate in a one-of-a kind wine tasting experience with three different vineyards to choose from along the way.  Spend the night in Sierra Vista where you can enjoy dinner at a one-of-a-kind restaurant.

San Xavier del Bac Mission

Completed in 1797, this historic Spanish mission is located on the Tohono O'odham San Xavier Indian Reservation, about twelve miles south of Tucson, and is known as the "White Dove of the Desert".  San Xavier is still served by Franciscans, and still serves the Native community for which it was built.

Tubac

Tubac, located about 40 miles south of Tucson, was established in 1752 as a Spanish presidio.  Working artists' studios now surround the grounds which once served as the home for a Spanish military garrison.  The Presidio is a state park and guided tours are available.  The Presidio is a convenient place to begin your Tubac tour because there is coach parking and the local galleries and shopping are just steps away.  Your tour will want to wander through the numerous art galleries, working studios and gift shops.

Tumacacori Mission

Established by Pimeria Alta in 1687 as a Spanish missionary it is now the Tumacacori National Historical Park visitor center. This park protects three Spanish colonial mission ruins; Tumacacori, Guevavi, and Calabazas.

Wine Country

Situated in the mile-high rolling grasslands of Southeastern Arizona, surrounded by the Huachuca, Whetstone, and Santa Rita Mountains, is a virtually undiscovered wine-growing region with soil so rich, it rivals that of Burgundy, France. The rows of vineyards that produce award winning red, white, and blush wines interrupt the oak glades and yucca patches native to the area, creating breathtaking views that make this a one-of-a kind wine tasting experience.

Sierra Vista

Surrounded by mountain peaks reaching nearly 10,000 feet, Sierra Vista enjoys a moderate five season climate with abundant sunshine.  The picturesque setting among the Huachuca, Dragoon, Mule and Whetstone Mountains confirms its Spanish name meaning Mountain View.
